My primary objective for every student I teach, whether their journey with me is brief or extensive, is to ensure they have a fulfilling and enlightening learning experience. To achieve this, I conduct an initial interview before starting lessons with a new student. This interview, offered at no cost, serves as an opportunity for us to become acquainted and for me to understand the student's goals for taking lessons. I believe this initial meeting marks the beginning of a significant relationship that is valuable to both the student and me. It allows us to determine if everyone agrees that it is a good fit.
Lessons are tailored for each student, taking into consideration their unique learning style and their specific goals.
Students aged 6 through 18 years typically have 45-minute lessons. Younger students, aged 4 to 5 years old, can opt for 30-minute lessons. As students progress to intermediate levels and beyond, lessons are extended to 60 minutes to accommodate their advancing skills and the need for more instruction.
In addition to traditional teaching methods, lessons incorporate off-the-bench learning activities such as games and exercises designed to reinforce the concepts being taught. Concepts covered include, but are not limited to, note reading, music theory, improvisation, and composition.
As the student progresses there are opportunities such as the Guild Auditions and the Federation Festival which are non competitive adjudicated events.
Learning the piano can often be a solitary activity. To foster camaraderie among my students, I have implemented regular group classes throughout the year. These classes transform the studio into a supportive team environment where students can collaborate, encourage one another, and explore music together. It brings me great joy to witness my students cheering each other on and building friendships as they progress on their musical journeys side by side.
My studio space is in the community center located at 3403 Winston Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28403
Piano Year 2024-2025
The 2024-2025 piano year is divided into two semesters. The Fall Semester runs from September 3rd through December 20th, and the Spring Semester runs from January 6th through June 13th.
Tuition: Tuition is paid monthly and remains consistent throughout the year. This approach aids families in budgeting and reduces confusion regarding monthly payments. Tuition is paid September through June in 10 equal payments. Monthly tuition will be pro-rated for students who begin lessons after the 1st of the month.
The tuition year includes:
34 private lessons
7 group classes
2 recitals (one each semester)
A subscription for each student to Piano Inspires. A fantastic resource for students published by the Francis Clark Center. We will be doing activities throughout the year using this publication.
Access to the online Music Learning Community. This is not social media, it is a music game and activity website where each student signs into their own portal to play music games, especially in the area of aural learning.
Monthly tuition is as follows: 30 minute lessons - $150 a month *Reserved for students 4-5 years of age 45 minute lessons - $180 a month 60 minute lessons - $230 a month
Lessons have a $35 per semester fee that covers supplemental music, games, and supplies. This is due with the September and January tuitions.
The teacher will select the music books, and students will be responsible for covering the costs. Parental approval will be obtained before any music is ordered. The cost will be added to the tuition for the following month.
All students must have a piano on which to practice regularly. Consistent practice time is required. An acoustic piano is preferred. If a digital piano is chosen, it must have weighted keys, a full keyboard (88 keys), and two pedals.
